14TH ANNUAL LAMBTOWN, USA FESTIVAL FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Over 15,000 visitors came to last year's Lambtown, USA Festival in Dixon, California to enjoy fresh lamb, sheepdog trials, shearing and weaving demonstrations, the annual Lamb Cook-off, entertainment and over 100 food and handcrafters booths. This year the crowd for this one day street fair is expected to be even larger. More craft and food booths are being added, as well as a sheep show and possible auction, mutton bustin' competition, sheep-to-shawl competition and speakers.

Lambtown, USA is a celebration of the sheep and wool industries in Dixon's heritage. It was started 16 years ago by the downtown merchants, as a one day sidewalk sale, but grew into a lamb festival within a few years. The lamb barbeque cook-off has traditionally been one of the most popular events, as are the livestock competitions. Last year's sponsors included Superior Packing, one of the country's largest lamb distributers, and Dixon's largest employer, Tri-Eagle Beverage (Budweiser Beer), Safeway, the California Wool Growers Association and Solano County Wool Growers Association.

The public is, of course, invited. Sample lamb from the cook-off and food vendors and discover quilts, toys, sheepskins, wall hangings, jewelry, clothing, artwork, crafts and trinkets from over 100 booths. Learn how to spin, weave, knit, shear, round-up and handle wool and sheep. The cooking demonstrations are also very popular. Meet local celebrities and the local lamb and wool producers too. Crafters, artists, wool and lamb producers, spinners, weavers, shearers mutton busters (kids only) and sheepdog owners interested in participating may obtain applications from Dana Carpio-Foss, Lambtown Committee Chair by writing to "Lambtown Festival, P. O. Box 11, Dixon, CA., 95620", call (707) 678-7386. Or look us up on our website, www.lambtown.com . The Festival will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2000 from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. Remember, this festival's theme is lamb and wool.
